Position Overview
The Appliance Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining major household appliances for residential and commercial customers. This role requires strong technical skills, problem-solving ability, and excellent customer service. Appliance Technicians play a key role in delivering high-quality service that represents the company’s standards and values.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnostics & Repair
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues on appliances such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, and microwaves.
- Perform repairs using proper tools, parts, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Conduct routine maintenance and preventative service.
- Test appliances after repair to verify correct operation and safety.
Customer Service
- Communicate clearly with customers regarding issues, repair options, and recommendations.
- Provide professional, courteous service while in homes or businesses.
- Offer maintenance tips or usage advice to help prevent future issues.
Documentation & Inventory
- Complete service orders, repair logs, and digital documentation accurately.
- Track parts usage, order needed parts, and maintain organized truck inventory.
- Use mobile devices or service software to update job progress.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures, including electrical safety and proper lifting techniques.
- Operate company vehicles safely and maintain a clean, organized service area.
- Comply with EPA guidelines when handling refrigerants (if certified).
Team Coordination
- Work closely with dispatchers, customer service, and management to coordinate daily schedules.
- Communicate repair findings to the appliance testing team when needed.
- Provide occasional support in the warehouse or delivery operations as required.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in appliance repair or a related technical trade preferred.
- EPA Section 608 certification (preferred for refrigeration repair; can be earned after hire).
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong troubleshooting and mechanical skills.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools such as multimeters, pressure gauges, and specialized appliance tools.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage a daily schedule effectively.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift and move heavy appliances (75–250 lbs) using proper equipment.
- Comfortable working in tight spaces, attics, basements, and varying indoor environments.
- Capable of standing, bending, kneeling, and performing repetitive tasks for extended periods.
